Tajikistan has enacted strict penalties for unauthorized cryptocurrency mining operations, including fines up to $8,000 and prison sentences of two to eight years. The move targets electricity theft as the nation grapples with winter power shortages.

Prosecutor General Habibullo Vohidzoda cited crypto farms as a primary cause of regional electricity deficits. The new law categorizes large-scale theft for mining as a serious crime, punishable by five to eight years imprisonment.
